Quality journalism is expensive, and to the extent that it provides a public good, we will find ways to fund it. But top-heavy, poorly run, arrogant-to-the-bitter-end media companies? This is their crisis, not our crisis, and it certainly isn’t about journalism.

I have a hunch that Sony owning both a music division and a media player division led to its dwindling importance in the digital world. The Walkman and Discman were wildly popular - as dominant in their day as Apple is now.
It’s only a hunch, but I imagine a collosal internal struggle between thoses two divisions, with the music division winning.

When the game becomes about effort over ability, it becomes unrecognizable—a shocking mixture of broken plays and flailing limbs and usually competent players panicking and throwing the ball out of bounds. You have to be outside the establishment—a foreigner new to the game or a skinny kid from New York at the end of the bench—to have the audacity to play it that way.
